WITH reference to your article on the state of the town, I totally agree with the comments and photographs, but what I am so infuriated about, is the condition of our war memorial at the cenotaph.

I wrote to the Liberal Democrat Party early in 1998 and asked if some renovation could be put in progress.

They said they would look into it, but did not know who it belonged to.

I heard nothing more.

In 1998 I then wrote to Councillor Roberts, who kindly passed on my to the charter trustees of the town of Kidderminster who, in turn, wrote to me.

They stated: "Please be assured that the town mayor and the charter trustees are resolved to do all they can to bring about a thorough restoration of the town war memorial without delay. So as soon as I have completed my inquiries I shall report back to the charter trustees with a recommended course of action designed to achieve what all desire in this matter".

I regularly attend the service at the cenotaph, and listen to the comments of the people. I find it very sad when people are trying hard to find the names engraved, long gone unless one has the ability to trace the letters - as in Braille.

Am I just very old fashioned to think they should still be given the respect as: "For our tomorrow they gave their today"?
