UPPER Lambourn trainer Michael Blanshard can upset the big stables by saddling Patsy's Double to win thehorsesmouth.co.uk Champagne Stakes at Doncaster tomorrow.
His colt goes into one of the most important two-year-old events of the season with his unbeaten record intact and, more importantly, his potential untapped.
Blanshard was out of luck with Locombe Hill in this Group Two contest twoyears ago but he is not afraid to try this route again.
And he hopes that Patsy's Double will do himself justice against quality opposition.
Blanshard said: "We are throwing him in at the deep end but you have to take a chance at some stage. I just hope he's up to it, he's been working well.
"He has always looked a useful horse at home but he still has something to prove. He was a late foal so hopefully he will show that he has improved since his last run."
That was at Newbury in July when he put up a smart performance to give 5lb and a length-and-a-quarter beating to Blueberry Forest over the straight seven furlongs.
That followed a 20-1 debut success over six at the Berkshire track and a smooth victory over the same trip at Salisbury. He could well cause an upset tomorrow.
Man O'Mystery can enhance his claims for the Tote Cambridgeshire by winning the Joy UK Conditions Stakes.
Jeremy Noseda's colt ran a fine race in the John Smith's Cup at York in July when he was caught by Sobriety and beaten a head.
But arguably his best performance so far came at Sandown in April when he failed by only a short head to give subsequent Group Two winner Medicean 4lb.
A progressive three-year-old, Man O'Mystery is 14-1 joint favourite for the first leg of the "Autumn Double" at Newmarket on September 30.
Punters should consider Romantic Affair in the Rothmans Royals Mallard Stakes.
John Dunlop has an array of staying talent in his Arundel yard this season and Romantic Affair deserves to be his representative in the "Showcase Handicap" over the full St Leger course.
The three-year-old looked unlucky at York two weeks ago when he was third past the post - promoted to second following the disqualification of the 'winner' Jardines Lookout.
That was his first attempt at a mile and three-quarters and he was staying on strongly after having to be switched to make his run.
David Elsworth's Lear Spear can outclass the opposition in the Listed Amco Corporation Troy Stakes, while Nick Littmoden can capture the DBS St Leger Yearling Stakes with Blue Reigns.
Londoner looks a capital proposition in the Bellway Homes Stardom Stakes at Goodwood.
Henry Cecil's youngster has done everything asked of him so far, being unbeaten in two runs.
After beating Rosi's Boy by half a length on his debut at Newmarket in July, he made all at Yarmouth where he landed a four-horse affair by half a length from Referral. Both races were over seven furlongs but he gives the impression that a mile will suit better.
Sir Effendi can prove the master in the Southernprint Conditions Stakes following a game victory over Welcome Friend and Showboat at Chepstow recently.
