A RESCUE attempt by brave passers-by was not enough to save a depressed man who threw himself off a 30ft high Kidderminster bridge, an inquest heard.
Kevin Doherty, 44, died after being found on the railway line beneath a bridge at Husum Way on Sunday July 30 - despite the best efforts of three members of the public who flagged down a train.
Mr Doherty was taken on the train to Kidderminster Station and from there to the town hospital. He died of multiple injuries.
Mr Doherty lived with his mother in Hagley and had been battling a drink and depression problem .
He had been visiting his sister in Kidderminster that weekend and had left at 8pm on Sunday to cycle home. His mother later found a note in his bedroom saying he intended to take his own life.
Mr Doherty had not been under the influence of drink or drugs, according to Worcestershire Coroner Victor Round who recorded a verdict that Mr Doherty had taken his own life.
