WORK on a £60,000 improvement to Lucy's Mill Bridge began this week, with the help of workmen based on pontoons and barges.
Paul Watson, project engineer, reflects on the task ahead at Lucy's Bridge.
The floating workstations were drafted in to allow easy access to the footbridge at the south of the town and to avoid causing damage and wear and tear to either the bridge or the riverbank.
The work on the bridge, which was one of the country's first concrete bridges when built in the 1930s, is scheduled to last for six weeks and in the meantime, walkers will be diverted via the Tramway Bridge.
