ONE of Britain's best loved poets will be remembered with an evening of verse in St James's Church in West Malvern.
Sir John Betjeman, one of the best-known and most popular of Poet Laureates, is also remembered for his love of churches and church architecture.
The Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings presents an annual award for church restoration in his name, St Michael and All Angels' in Ledbury being shortlisted for this year's honour. So it is appropriate that 'John Betjeman - A Poetic Journey in Words and Music' will benefit the St James's Church Roof Appeal.
The tribute includes extracts from the popular Summoned by Bells, poems like Sidmouth, In Westminster Abbey and, appropriately enough, Blame the Vicar!
The performance is on Friday, September 15, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £7 (£5 concs), which includes a buffet supper. They are available in advance from 01684 564893, 560335 or 563790.
