I was amazed to read (Malvern Gazette, September 1) that there is to be no pantomine this year at the Malvern Theatres. There has always been pantomimes in the theatre at Christmas, one week in the year devoted to children, parents and grandparents in Malvern and surrounding districts.

Does Mr Lloyd realised that he is turning business away in favour of a few patrons who only attend the operas and plays, no thought for the younger members of the public who in future years will be his next audiences. Does he and his committee think they are the only ones who know best? Or has he not heard the laughter and enjoyment the children have at these shows?

Although the producers are new, surely it's better to give them a chance to put on a good show, than slap them down.

I would like to know why the Malvern Theatre Players, who have been putting shows on for 23 years, were not asked, when they were quite willing to put one on.

But, as usual, the members of the public have not been asked their views. I suppose we can always go to the Swan Theatre, where children are welcome.
