BARNARDS Green enjoyed a successful tour to Dorset/Hampshire last week with six enjoyable games.
A party of 21, all Green regular members, stayed just outside Bournemouth and experienced excellent weather until it broke late on Friday.
On Sunday the Green defeated Hinton Admiral CC by seven runs in a game which saw 41 for Alex Lamb, a maiden 50 for Rich Birch and a half century for Phil Spencer batting at number 11 including five consecutive sixes. The Green reached 207 but Hinton were always in reach thanks to Jack Wheeler's 90 but, needing a run a ball of the last over, Robin Longmore dismissed former Hampshire batsman Buck to win the game.
Monday saw the demolition of Mudeford CC as the Green amassed 296 off 40 overs thanks to Kyle Golder (83), Derek Goodman (58), Paul Yorke (43) before dismissing the home side for 170.
At Easton on Tuesday as the Green struggled to 152-8 on a slow wicket, main contributions from Chris Hill and Rob Lewis. In reply Easton looked favourites and only a tight spell from Andy Lamb and Phil Spencer saw a late flurry of wickets to leave the home side short on 143-8.
The only defeat came on Wednesday at New Milton where a young Green attack was savaged by Australian Luke Ronchi as the hosts raced to 220-4 off 40 overs and skipper Dick Brown was let down by indifferent batting as the Green surrendered to 103 all out.
On Thursday the Green took on Southern League champions Bashley and defeated them by 33 runs on an excellent wicket. Batting first Kevin Golder (39) and Rich Williams (60) gave an excellent start built on by Jez and Tim Clarke and Jon Onty to take the Green to 223 for 7 off 40 overs. Tight bowling by Tim Williams, Tim Clarke and Paul Drinkwater restricted the home side to 190 for 8.
Friday's game at Broadway and Horton was washed out after the Green made 180-5 with Rich Birch making his second 50 of the tour.
Top tourist award went to Magnus Brookes and special mention to Robin Longmore for his sterling efforts in helping organiser Dick Brown to make 2000 another excellent tour.
