MALVERN Hills Conservators have taken steps to avoid a repeat of the theft of part of the toposcope on Worcestershire Beacon.
The original engraved plate, which gave a panoramic guide to landmarks seen from the top of the Hills, was stolen earlier this year.
Conservators found a copy of original plans by Troyte Griffith and were been able commission a copy from a company in Birmingham, using laser technology.
A note has been added to the new plate saying it is a copy, hopefully reducing its interest to potential thieves. The Conservators have also put up a barrier to stop vehicles reaching the Beacon via the track off Beacon Road. It is thought the thieves would have needed a vehicle to transport their bulky haul.
Chairman Brian Wilcock said: "Although it's sad that original plate has not been recovered, I'm happy that a copy of this interesting and historical feature is available for people to enjoy."
