GROWERS in Upton defied the weather to produce more entries than ever before at Upton Garden Club's annual show in the Memorial Hall on Saturday.
"It was absolutely incredible, because the season has been quite difficult, with everything very late maturing," said secretary Margaret Davis.
Despite this, only the parsnip class failed to attract any entries at all and there was a record total of 467 entries.
Champion grower Jack Payne, of Tunnel Hill, retained the members' cup for vegetables, as well as the cup for most points in the flower, fruit and vegetable classes.
Another member, Margaret Dredge, from Kidderminster, took the cup for flowers and fruit.
But the Best in Show award went to 12-year-old Eleanor Davis, of Abergavenny, for her plan for an environmental garden.
Eleanor and her sister Briony, aged 14, the granddaughters of chairman and secretary Vincent and Margaret Davis, each won a shield for achieving the most points in their age group.
