LANGLAND Sports enjoyed a successful opening weekend in the Worcester & District Football League winning both their matches.
On Saturday Langland visited Powick for a division one encounter and came away victors 4-2. Stu Harvey grabbed a hat-trick with Dean Drinkwater also on the scoresheet and fine performances from Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox and Lee Hooper.
On Sunday Langland Sports were away again at Severnside in division three and collected the three points with a fine 7-3 win.
Langland started well with Sam Dakin and Pete Brannely prominent and early pressure brought an own goal after the ball had flicked on from Stu Harvey's shoulder.
Minutes later Cliff Gardiner fed Dave Beats and he raced through the home defence to shoot home in the bottom corner before Harvey got onto the scoresheet with a crouched header.
With Langland easing off just before half-time Severnside pulled one back through Olly Veal.
At half time, Langland goalkeeper Mark Newman came off injured after an excellent half to be replaced by Matt Butler, who was later to make a number of good saves.
Langland kept the pressure on in the second half but a breakaway goal from Richard Newman pulled the score back to 3-2, however this was rectified straight from the restart when Dean Drinkwater lobbed the home keeper.
The game then became a bit scrappy and throwing more men forward Severnside were awarded a penalty which they easily converted for 4-3.
Langland then took control of the game again and further goals followed from the manager's player of the match Sam Dakin, a thunderous volley following a corner, Stu Harvey latching onto a Drinkwater through ball and Graham Jones then making the final score 7-3.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Langland Sports are at home to New Inn, Pershore (3pm) and on Sunday they have a Bernard Finnegan Cup local derby tie against Keyz 2000. Players meet Victoria Park, 10am.
