A SOMEWHAT depleted Town progressed to the third round in atrocious conditions at Braces Lane.

The visitors opened brightly and for the first 20 minutes saw more of the ball than Town who were taking time to settle.

However, Interleasing posed little threat, with Peter Frost having his best game of the season at the back, taking everything in his stride and venturing forward from time to time.

Andy Smith was dominant in the air and Gary Morgan ably swept whatever came his way.

Nevertheless, Town did not create a great deal with much of the play centred in midfield.

Whenever Town's strike force of Carl Gray and Scott Gaffney got sight of the ball, Interleasing's Craig Slimmon had them well shackled.

As if by magic, Town's game picked up late in the first half and as is often the case, increased possession resulted in a goal.

Duncan McLeod crossed from the right and Dave Westwood rose above everyone else to head home his first goal for Town.

Town dominated the game thereafter and early in the second half should have had the game sewn up.

Steve Hinton miscued from close range and Stuart Eades lashed the ball against the keeper's right hand post.

However, both these players' determination and commitment were rewarded a little later.

Eades bent a beauty into the roof of the net from a free kick just outside the box and Hinton glanced a McLeod corner into the far corner to seal Town's passage into the next round.
