A COMMUNITY scheme to help elderly and disabled people get about town faces closure.
Droitwich Spa Shop-mobility volunteers are holding a crunch meeting on January 18 to discuss the charity's future.
The service could be axed because of an apathetic response from residents.
It boasts an impressive range of equipment including electric wheelchairs and scooters but in November just nine people used the facility and the scheme has attracted only six users this month.
It officially opened in January at a unit in St Andrew's Square but moved in August to Droitwich Spa Indoor Market.
The project opens three days a week in the market and three days at Gateway, in Salters' Shopping Centre.
Organiser Phil Pepper, of Suffolk Way, said the public originally welcomed the idea but has not supported it since.
Phil told the Advertiser: "We are OK financially. But it's a waste of time and resources if we are not maximising the service.
"We haven't decided to close yet but it's an option the committee will have to seriously consider."
The disabled 51-year-old added: "It's sad, but we must be realistic.
"Maybe people prefer to go to Worcester or don't feel safe using the equipment in High Street."
He welcomed anyone who would like a short-term loan over the Christmas period - for example, if elderly relatives are visiting - to speak to him.
