THE warning that a dog is for life not just for Christmas has been reinforced in Droitwich after the discovery of four abandoned puppies.
Spa residents found the identical dogs on separate days last week.
The collie crosses, aged about five months, are likely to spend Christmas at the National Canine Defence League's animal shelter, in Evesham.
They were picked up by Wychavon District Council's dog warden, Pip Singleton, in Drover's Way, the grounds of Droitwich Spa High School, in Briar Mill, and Chawson Valley.
Miss Singleton said: "It's highly likely these dogs are from the same litter.
"This sort of abandonment is unforgivable and totally unnecessary. It's dog ownership at its worst.
"If someone cannot look after their pet, help is available.
"They can call me and I will provide them with the names and phone numbers of charities which will be able to help.
"We need to drive the message home that dogs are a lifelong commitment.
"Anyone considering having one should think long and hard about it."
She said the puppies would ideally be suited to mature couples who are experienced in providing the training and exercise the boisterous dogs need.
They will be rehomed separately. For more information, call Miss Singleton on 01386 565249.
