THIS week's Tim's Tackle open, which was held on Tuesday on the Pheasant Pool at Elmbridge, produced better catches than last week with carp taken on pole fished corn, giving Martin Smith (Tim's Tackle) the winning catch of 29-4-0 from peg 23. Match organiser Jim Russell (Tim's Tackle) was second with 18-12-0, third Rob Francis (Ovation Leisure) 14-9-0.
At Woodlands View the Affordable open was won by Mike Williams (Shrews Bait) by pole fishing maggots and pinkies at Deans Pool peg 37 for 18-6-0 of silver fish. Bill Drew (Tim's Tackle) took second place with 15-1-0, third Ken Oldham (Dudley) 14-6-0.
The Starlets Veterans were at Moorlands Farm's Middle and Moors Pools, which saw Redditch angler Peter Taylor take a fine 33-4-0, which consisted of four big carp taken with feedered red and white maggots from Moors peg 18. Second John Allington (Hereford) 15-6-0, third Clive Humphries (Kidderminster) 14-3-0.
On Wednesday the Moorlands Farm Moors Pool open was topped by Clive Munslow (Preston Innovations) with a 40-4-0 carp haul by pole fishing maggots at peg eight. Second Colin Pace (Bilston) 26-2-0, third Ralph Baxter (Moorlands) 13-2-0.
The Astwood Fisheries Bluebell Pool open was headed by Stoke Prior's Gary Kirkham (Astwood) who pole fished corn at peg 19 for 16-2-0 of carp. Second Ron Fowler (Weoley Castle WMC) 6-9-0, third Brian Williams (Astwood) 4-3-0.
Just a single dram decided the Geers Redditch Federation open on Saturday at Earlswood on the Stratford on Avon Canal, and it was Longbridge top rod Steve Marke (Ovation Leisure) that took the honours with a bloodworm and joker pole catch of 2-9-6 of roach, perch and gudgeon from peg 82. Just missing the top spot was Alan Dawson (Studley Road AC) with a similar catch of 2-9-5, third Gerry Lundy (Fisherman's Friend) 2-2-9.
The Woodlands View Deans Pool open was won by Paul Sibley (Midland MG) who waggler fished maggots at peg 11 for a mixed catch of 29-6-0. Close on his heels was Tim Guise (Fisherman's Friend) with 27-12-0, third Paul Caswell (Shakespeare) 25-15-0.
Round five of the Moorlands Farm Winter League, teams of four, saw Kieron Rich (TPKK) take the top individual honours with a waggler and maggot 47-4-0 carp catch from Meadow Pool peg 56. Runner up was Simon Christian (Fosters Tipton) with 33-14-0, third Phil Weaver (Pendragon) 42-9-0. Top team on the day were Sensas Milton Keynes with 54 points, second DC Lifestyle Red 49, third TPKK 47. Overall Fosters Gold lead with 66, Shakespeare 63, TPKK 60.
On Sunday Neville Groves (Tim's Tackle) was the winner of the Moorlands Farm open with a waggler and maggot catch of 41-12-0 from Moors Pool peg five. Second Mick Henshaw (Fosters MG) 33-10-0, third Lee Lewis (Fosters MG) 27-8-0.
At Astwood Fishery the Bluebell Pool open was won by John Baillon (Boars Head) with a modest 9-5-0 catch taken with waggler and maggots from peg 19. Second Brian Goodchild (Austin SS) 7-5-0, third Les Dunmore (Darcast) 4-2-0.
The first round of the Garbolino Silver Fish league took place at Woodlands View with 18 teams of four taking part, and Rob Gandley (Shakespeare) topped the individual list from Arles Pool peg 25 with 17-6-0 by pole fishing pinkies over joker feed. Second Dave Stuart (Fosters Tipton VDE) 16-1-0, third Paul Downes (Starlets Blue) 15-10-0. Top team was Starlets Blue with 60 points, second Starlets Gold 53, third Image MS 52.
