FORMER Manchester City apprentice Allan Davies is set to sign for Worcester City on a month's loan ahead of Saturday's clash with Ilkeston.

The 28-year-old Burton Albion right-back has played more than 450 games for the Brewers but has struggled to displace Jason Kavanagh under Nigel Clough since losing his place in October.

A long-term deal has not been discussed, but City boss John Barton is looking to bolster his squad for the Christmas period with games coming thick and fast.

City play Ilkeston at the weekend and are then due to replay their Umbro Trophy second round tie with Hendon at St George's Lane on Monday after this week's 1-1 stalemate.

Barton is keen to provide cover for his squad while Davies is desperate for first team action after a frustrating period on the sidelines at Eton Park.

The City boss would only confirm today that talks were ongoing with the defender, but it is hoped a deal can be struck so Davies is available for Saturday.
