UNWANTED puppies have been dumped in Droitwich in the run-up to Christmas.
Four identical male collie crosses were discovered abandoned within a few days.
Wychavon District Council's dog warden, Pip Singleton, rescued the five-month-old animals after tip-offs from members of the public. She described it as "dog ownership at its worst".
The first dog was found in Drover's Way, Westlands, the second in the grounds of Droitwich High School, the third in Chawson Valley and the fourth on the Chawson estate.
The rescued animals have been given shelter at the National Canine Defence League's Wickhamford kennels, near Evesham.
"It's highly likely that these dogs are all from the same litter," said Ms Singleton.
"This sort of abandonment is unforgivable and totally unnecessary.
"If someone finds themselves in the position that they cannot look after their animals there is help available.
"They can phone me and I will provide them with the names and phone numbers of charities which will be able to help.
"We need to drive the message home in the run-up to Christmas that dogs are a life-long commitment and anyone considering having a dog should think long and hard about what that actually means."
Anyone willing to help with the re-homing of the puppies is asked to call Pip Singleton on 01386 565249.
