JAN Molby is convinced teenage midfielder Ben Davies is going to make the grade as a professional with Kidderminster Harriers.
And the talented 19-year-old took another step nearer to proving the Aggborough boss right by making a healthy impression in his first full appearance for Harriers in Tuesday's 2-1 DLV Vans Trophy first round victory over Carlisle.
Molby said: "Ben is a great young pro. He does everything you ask of him and more. He deserved his run out on Tuesday and I thought he did well.
"He did well when he played in the middle of the park and he did even better when he went to right wing back, so I was delighted for him.
"I rate Ben, but obviously he's on the fringe of things and he's one of those we need to give time.
"He's on the small side and he's always been a very careful player, but we are trying to coach that out of him. We want him to be more adventurous because he's got a good range of passing.
"We gave him a one-year contract because we saw quite a bit of him last season and we liked him."
Walsall-born Davies was connected with Stoke City during his school years before becoming a YTS player with his home-town club.
He arrived at Aggborough last season and impressed Molby enough to be offered a professional contract.
Davies said: "I was over the moon. I really enjoyed the time I spent here at the end of last season. I had seen enough to know that I would be happy here and I knew I would get a fair chance to show what I can do."
