AROUND 30 members of staff from a Droitwich hotel were evacuated from their bedrooms today after fire broke out in their quarters.
Flames tore through one of the bedrooms as many staff were sleeping at the Chateau Impney Hotel, shortly after 8.30am.
No one was injured in the blaze, but more than 25 firefighters were called to the scene.
Worcester station officer Adrian Moore said six firefighters plunged into the two-storey staff quarters to tackle the fire in the ground-floor bedroom.
"It was a severe fire which severely damaged a ground-floor bedroom. The rest of the building has suffered smoke damage," he said.
Firefighters from Worcester, Droitwich and Bromsgrove were called to the scene, along with a turntable ladder, which was not used.
"I didn't know what was happening," said one member of staff who was evacuated.
"I heard the alarm go off and that was the first thing I knew. I got dressed and we were out."
Hotel director Robin Carr said staff now had to be re-housed but was unable to say where. He praised staff and firefighters for their quick response.
"All of the staff were evacuated in advance of the fire brigade arriving," he said. "There were no problems and the staff acted wonderfully."
He declined to speculate on the course of the fire, but confirmed that no cooking equipment was kept in the staff quarters.
A fire investigation team was today examining the blaze scene.
