LEDBURY Rugby Club stay top of North Midlands One after a tense 23-22 victory at Old Griffinians.
They got a flying start when winger Ollie Kaye went over after only two minutes, and after a concerted period of pressure fly-half Richard Hall added another try which he converted himself. He then kicked a penalty before the home side landed a successful kick of their own.
The second half was a different story as Ledbury's tackling began to go awry and Old Griffs upped the pace. They reduced the arrears with a try only for John Jones to then go over for Ledbury following a back-row move.
Old Griffs managed two more tries, one of them converted, but another Hall penalty in between kept Ledbury just in front.
Second-placed Stourport maintained their unbeaten record despite being without six key players, with an 18-11 success at Five Ways Old Edwardians.
Stand-off Richard Dorrell opened the scoring with a penalty and prop Julian Farmer added a pushover try which Dorrell converted, before a Five Ways penalty reduced the arrears to 10-3 at the interval.
Another penalty pulled it back to 10-6 but another try from wing forward Victor Little, followed by a Dorrell penalty, eased Stourport's nerves and a late try for the home side came too late to matter.
Third-placed Veseyans were shocked by an excellent Bromyard performance which brought them a 23-7 victory.
The visitors led 7-6 at the interval, two Mark Panniers penalties giving Bromyard their points, but it was a different story after the break as the home forwards took charge.
Skipper Ed Pitt went over for two tries, both of which were converted by Panniers, the first a superb effort from the touchline. He also added another penalty.
In North Midlands Two, third-placed Tenbury recovered from 10-0 down inside the first five minutes to beat Bournville 17-10.
A converted try and a penalty served as a wake-up call to the home side, and before the interval number eight Will Morgan drove over for a try, converted by full-back Ricky Evans who also kicked a penalty to level the scores.
Tenbury had the better of the second half and after a series of forward drives, Morgan was driven over again for the decisive score, Evans again converting.
Worcester Wanderers continued their dominance in North Midlands Three with a 30-10 home win over third-placed Essington.
They stay two points clear of Solihull after keeping their 100 per cent season record intact.
