PARISH COUNCIL: News from the parish council meeting held on November 14:
Flooding: Members noted that the contractors appointed by Wychavon DC have moved to The Green, prior to commencing the flood alleviation work to Merry Brook between the Canada Road bridge and a point some 30 metres downstream. The parish council has arranged for the remainder of the brook course in public ownership to be attended to and it is hoped that these works will improve the flow of water in Merry Brook sufficiently to ensure that flooding is a thing of the past in the village. After considerable discussion the parish council has agreed that they will consider in next year's budget for a contribution towards the cost of the flood alleviation works. At present this looks as if it will be in the region of £1,300 per year for three years, but detailed costs of the work are being sought from the district council.
Village Speed Limits: The county council has commenced the traffic calming scheme in the village and it is hoped that it will be completed within the next month.
Grant: The parish council has paid over the promised grant of £2,000 towards the extension at Cropthorne and Charlton Village Hall.
Trees: The parish council's contractor has been asked to undertake the necessary work on the willow tree on The Green, which was damaged in the high winds early in November. The parish council has been informed that some grants are available for tree planting in rural areas.
Next meeting to be held on January 9, at 7.30pm in the Old School Room, Charlton.
