THE first step towards providing Redditch with an attractive and efficient transport system to serve the needs of the expanding New Town will be put into effect next month.
The scheme comprises four basic proposals:
a) More frequent buses and reduced fares.
b) A one-way system round the town centre.
c) Parking charges on existing ground level car parks as well as the multi-storey car park and:
d) The covering of the Transport Interchange and provision of town bus shelters.
This is the first phase in a constantly evolving programme to integrate all traffic and transportation matters in Redditch and is the work of Redditch Transportation Steering Group, which includes representatives of the county council, district council, Development Corporation, Midland Red Bus Company, British Rail and the Department of the Environment.
