THE week started as expected, wet and windy for Tuesday's Tim's Tackle open at Elmbridge, and Black Country angler Martin Smith (Tim's Tackle) drew favourably with the wind on his back on Pheasant Pool peg 22 where he pole fished corn for four small carp for a winning 12-6-0. Second Jim Russell (Tim's Tackle) 11-10-0, third yours truly Tony Brunn (Ovation Leisure) 6-10-0.
The Starlets Veterans fished its events at Moorlands Farm with club secretary Mick Taylor (Northfield) taking the honours with 14-3-0 of carp and roach taken at six metres with pole fished disco pinkies. Second place went to Bob Knight (Kidderminster) 13-5-0, joint third Clive Humphries (Bewdley) and John Cole (Bewdley) both with 10-8-0.
At Woodlands View, the Affordable open was fished on Arles and High Pools with Neville Groves (Tim's Tackle) in first place with a pole, caster and maggot catch of 35-4-0 from Arles peg 38. Second Ian Grainger (Phoenix) 27-3-0, third John Knight (Willow Creek) 23-6-0.
The Woodlands View Wednesday open was topped by Simon Fry (MAP Starlets) with a waggler and maggot catch of 26-3-0 from Arles Pool peg 23. Tim Guise (Fisherman's Friend) followed with 22-0-0, third Richie Hull (MAP Starlets) 20-2-0.
At Astwood Fisheries, the Bluebell Pool open was headed by Ron Fowler (Weoley Castle WMC) with a modest 8-9-0 of carp taken with waggler and maggots from peg 20. Second John Grazier (Starlets Veterans) 7-2-0, third Ian Sutherland (Land Rover) 4-7-0.
On Saturday Telfish AC moved its Committee Cup Argus Final and KO Final from the River Avon to Greensforge on the Staff/Worcs Canal, where three nights of hard frosts hit catches severely. Winner Graham Upton managed to put together a respectable 2-10-0 of gudgeon, roach and perch from a peg just past the Gables. Runner-up was Bromsgrove's John Miller with 1-0-8, joint third were Jim Pedley, Barry Price and yours truly Tony Brunn with 15 oz 8 drams apiece. I managed to win the KO Cup, knocking out Dick Dark, and also the Argus masters place next June with 23 points. John Miller was a close second with 26, and Dick Dark third with 28. The Club's Aggregate Cup also goes to myself after a five match series with 23 points, with John Miller second on 26.
Eighteen teams of four lined the banks of Woodlands View for round two of the Garbolino Silver Fish League, with Paul Boothby (Preston Innovations) taking the top individual honours from Arles Pool peg 16 by pole fishing bloodworm and joker for 18-2-0. Second Mark Warren (Starlets Youth) 15-14-0, third Kian Wardle (Starlets Youth) 15-13-0.
Starlets Youth topped the points list with 62, second Lads and Lasses 61, third Shakespeare 49. Overall Lads and Lasses lead with 109, Starlets Youth 107, Starlets Blue 106.
The sixth round of the Moorlands Farm Winter League was won by Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) with ledgered maggots at Meadow Pool peg 58 for 75-9-0 of carp. Second Simon Christian (Fosters Tipton) 64-0-0, third Simon Richardson (DC Lifestyle Blue) 58-15-0.
Team Rooney headed a close result with 50 points, Shakespeare 49, Fosters Elite Match and TPKK both 48. Shakespeare lead the league with 79, followed by Fosters Gold with 77, Fosters Elite Match 75.
Sunday's Moorlands Farm open was won by Mick Henshall (Fosters MG) with a level 50-0-0 from Bank Pool peg 22, taken with waggler and maggots. Second Chris Hill (Fosters MG) 17-14-0, third Neville Groves (Tim's Tackle) 16-12-0.
The River Alne at Kinwarton saw the Kings Norton AS Invitation teams of three, with Kings Heath angler Jim Rider (K H Corks) taking the top individual spot by stick float fishing maggots at peg three for 5-9-0 of chub. Second Steve Woodward (Birmingham) 2-15-8, third Wayne Wetherstone (Birmingham) 1-0-0. Top team were Kings Heath Corks with 16 points.
The Mallards of Bewdley open at Hinksford on the Staffs/Worcs Canal was won by Wolverhampton Canal expert Paul Turner (Fosters Tipton VDE) who pole fished casters and maggots just above the moored boats at Greensforge Lock for a perch and roach catch of 2-13-0 which was worth £125. Second Joe Cotterill (Brownhills DC) 2-5-12, third Kevin Adderley (FAPS Trinders) 2-3-8.
Astwood Fisheries Bluebell Pool open saw a whitewash by Weoley Castle WMC members, and it was Paul Hanford who showed the way from in form peg 20. Second Jim Woods 18-7-0, third Ron Fowler 4-3-0.
The Woodlands View Silver Fish open saw a close result with Mick Hatchard (Shakespeare) leading the field with a bloodworm and joker catch of 15-15-0 from Arles Pool peg 23. Sean Ashby (Preston Innovations) followed with 15-11-0, third Simon Nickless (MAP Starlets) 14-11-0.
