6 MAY I congratulate you on the Great Flood publication. A copy arrived two days ago from a lady who I taught at St Paul's School, Worcester, some 50 or so years ago and I have found it very interesting.
I do, of course, remember lots of floods in my old city and it seemed that at one time we were always having floods on the cricket ground and the racecourse.
I seem to remember lots of floods on the cricket ground and the racecourse. I seem to remember that on one occasion the Nawab of Pataudi swam from the New Road entrance of the cricket ground to the pavilion.
I feel so sorry for the people whose home have been flooded and hope that the worst is over and that they can be back to normal in time for Christmas.
It is at Christmas that I hear from so many old pupils of mine from Worcester - and of course from Hereford and the Isle of Wight but it is the people from Worcester that were the first to be taught by me and so very special.
I look back on my days at St Paul's and my father's days at St Martin's and compare them with the schools of today. We did not have much in those days after the war.
However, we had a lot of love and a lot spirit, and when I read letters from old pupils I know that they left school with a sound education.
