BROMSGROVE RFC's First XV went down 30-13 in their Worcestershire derby at Malvern in Midlands West Two.
An Andy Longley penalty gave the home side an early lead and then a chip ahead enabled Longley to win the race to touch down. Matt Birch pulled back six points with two successful penalties.
The Malvern pack took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half. Hart, Thomas and Longley set up a fine try for Dave Beech, Longley kicked another penalty and then joined the line to set up hooker Irish to score.
Longley converted and almost immediately worked a switch for Beech to go over for his second try. James Udy scored a consolation try.
Bromsgrove U11s 35 Old Hales U11s 5. In heavy conditions, Bromsgrove played some of their best rugby of the season. Only determined defending by Old Hales kept the score down. Try scorers: George Russell (two), Jason Harvey (two), Charles Eden, Ashley Binner and Joshua Audley.
Bromsgrove U11s 40 Old Hales U11s 10. Playing a much changed side, some good passing moves resulted in an easy victory. Try scorers: Joshua Audley (two), Jason Harvey (two), Jonathan Wilkinson, Bradley Price, Stuart Hendry and Patrick Oxenham.
Bromsgrove U12s 10 Old Halesonians U12s 10. Concerted pressure from Town pushed Old Hales back and led to Scott Morris scoring the first try. Thomas Cole's superb break almost produced another score but failed as he was forced into touch. Town's second try came when Jack Cawston fielded a high kick and fed Morris with a perfectly timed pass and he beat the defence for his second score.
