DROITWICH First XV came out second best when they lost 21-6 to third placed Southam in Midlands Four West (South).
The opening exchanges saw the home sides big forwards run at Droitwich and only last ditch tackling prevented a score. Droitwich seemed to find some rhythm, with Nick Godfrey playing well in the forwards and Sascha Hobbs running strongly in the backs.
It was from one such break by Hobbs that a try should have been scored, but no Droitwich player was close enough to receive what would have been a scoring pass. Two Matt Blackmore penalties saw the visitors go into half time 6-3 up.
Droitwich started the second half brightly with a lovely break by Jamie Faulkener setting up a great attacking situation on the Southam line. However a series of basic errors saw the play go all the way back down the field for the home side to score. This raised Southam's game with Droitwich getting gradually worse. The last half hour was totally dominated by Southam and the final nail in the Droitwich coffin was an interception try by Southam as Droitwich tried to run out of defence.
