A FURTHER letter of objection from Kingfisher Centre owners Thornfields about plans for a health club at the former Megabowl has prompted Redditch councillors to defer a decision for a third time.

Thornfields has voiced concerns about the impact of the proposed development by Esporta Ltd on the vitality of the town centre.

The letter said leisure developments should be directed toward the town centre and not in an out-of-centre location.

At a planning committee meeting on Tuesday, Mark Finch, from Thornfields, said: ''We have no evidence from the applicant that these proposals are, in fact, acceptable when considering the town centre.

"Thornfields has been working extremely hard to revitalise the centre and we don't believe we have seen the evidence required which supports the applicant's proposal.

"Councillors can ask the applicant to supply further information and only then will they be able to make a proper decision."

A spokesman for the agents representing Esporta said: "The only objections to these proposals are from a company which wants to build a similar club in the town centre.

"This land is required to stay as a leisure development. The application only asks to change the equipment within the building and to remove the bowling lanes and remodel the restaurant area - the leisure use will not change."

Councillors approved a motion by council leader Albert Wharrad that Esporta carry out a study on the impact the development would have on the town centre before the proposals come before the committee again.
