TRIBUTE has been paid to a pensioner who died after he was involved in an accident with a van only yards from where he lived.
Alfred Buckton died at Worcester Royal Infirmary over the weekend. He never recovered from the accident, which happened on Harbinger Avenue, Malvern.
Mr Buckton, an 82-year-old widower, was crossing the road on the morning of Monday, December 11, less than 200 yards from the warden-controlled housing association accommodation, on Pickersleigh Road, where he lived.
Paul Loach, manager of Viscount Cobham Court, where Mr Buckton had lived since 1986, said the residents were still coming to terms with the loss.
"It's fair to say there is a feeling of great shock about the news," he said.
"There's no doubt he was well-liked by those who knew him and will be missed."
Mr Buckton, from Malvern, leaves four grown children.
His daughter Pamela said, today, her father was a good family man who worked as a painter and decorator.
"He was born in Malvern and then spent much of his life in Birmingham," she said. "He wanted to move back to Malvern as he loved it there."
Police are now trying to find out more about the accident.
So far two witnesses have come forward. Anyone who can help with information is asked to contact Worcester police on 01905 723888.
Mr Buckton's funeral service is due to be held at Worcester Crematorium on Thursday, December 28, at 11.30am.
