THE report of an exhibition of proposed traffic calming measures in the vicinity of Sladen Middle School referred to the excessive and speeding traffic in the stretch of Hurcott Road between the Horsefair and Chester Road North.
The exhibition may well have referred to that part of the road. I saw no publicity of it and consequently did not visit it.
But the excessive and speeding traffic is not confined to that section of Hurcott Road.
The whole length of the road and Baldwin Road and Bruce Road are used as a by-pass to the Land Oak junction.
In the morning and evening rush hours the volume of traffic, and at other times the speeds, are most unacceptable in a residential area.
I understand that the calming measures are for the safety of children going to and from Sladen and St George's schools.
A high percentage of those children live in the Greenhill area and walk along the eastern half of Hurcott Road.
My comments at the public inquiry regarding the Chester Road lights that this would happen, were refuted by county engineers.
I think that the traffic on the whole of Hurcott Road should be studied very carefully before there is a serious accident.
