I AM writing with regard to the waste incinerator proposal for the British Sugar site in Kidderminster.

This autumn we have begun to witness the impact of climate change on rainfall levels and temperatures.

World leaders have been meeting in an attempt to reduce CO2 emissions.

Yet Worcestershire County Council sign themselves up to a plan to burn waste and add to these emissions which are believed to lead to global warming.

Not only this, but they want to site the incinerator in a heavily built-up area close to dense residential developments where the air quality is already among the poorest in the county.

Of course they tell us that the incinerator is far cleaner than those built 25 years ago. But this gives little comfort.

I am sure they said the same in 1975, but we now know more about the dangers of dioxins and other harmful products from burning waste. What will we know in another 25 years time?

I urge people to write to the chief executive of Worcestershire County Council at County Hall, Worcester, by January 12, stating reasons for objecting to the plan.
