Top
cast on show
THE downbeat title is a bit deceptive, for Beyond The Barricade, which plays Malvern Theatres on January 5-6, is actually a stupendous musical show.
It's an evening of some of the best songs from top musicals performed by a cast of brilliant singers.
The production has been to Malvern twice before and on each occasion sold out.
Originally planned as a one-off charity aid concert for Mencap in 1997, the show was such a success and the demand for another concert so strong, it was repeated.
With yet more demands for further concerts, the cast and crew decided to tour the production under the title of Beyond the Barricade, named after a song from Les Miserables.
This led to performances in the West End and now the production is back once more at Malvern's Forum Theatre, as part of a further UK Tour.
The concert incorporates songs from the best of the West End and Broadway musicals, including a selection from hits such as Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Grease and Les Miserables.
The reaction from audiences across
the West End has been terrific, with
the rousing repertoire making this the sort of show where the singing doesn't only take place on stage!
The cast of the original concert consisted of singers from the long-standing musical Les Miserables.
The quality and reputation of the current cast of Beyond The Barricade is equally unique and includes Rebecca Vere (Cosette in the national tour of Les Miserables), David Fawcett (Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell, the Emcee in Caberet and Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls), Andy Reiss (Les Miserables, Che Guevara in Evita, Resident Director for the national tour of Les Miserables) and Cathy Cogle (West End debut in Les Miserables, where she played the part of Cosette on many occasion and title role in The Diary of Anne Frank in New York).
Produced by John Warwick and with an all star cast, it's an evening not to be missed.
6 Beyond the Barricade is at Malvern Theatres on Friday, January 5 and Saturday, January 6, performance time 7.30pm. Tickets £16 and £14. Box office 01684 892277.
