What a difference a year can make in the life of any of us, not to mention that of a town.
Just one year ago you printed several articles re the Christmas lights in Upton, or rather the lack of them. This year we have got one of the best shows we have had for many a year, and it is all down to just two ladies, Jean and Lynn, both have shops in the town and they got together to organise this year's display. It is not easy going from business to business trying to get money and help, but they have gone ahead and the result is just great.
But, they did not stop there. We've also, thanks to them, had a FREE raffle running, ending with a torch light procession through the town tonight (Friday).
Of course, they could not have done all this on their own, they have roped in "volunteers", but the important thing about all of this is that it has been down to the people of Upton, not any council. It just goes to show what can be achieved if we work together.
The ladies have had one big draw back this year, that of the floods, but it did not stop the or the shops in the town from putting on window displays that are second to none.
Thank you all.
BETTY WILLIAMS, Old Street, Upton-upon-Severn.
