THANK you for reporting some of my views about the end of the activities of the Ledbury markets and fairs on the cattle market site so accurately. However, I would like to apologise for not making it clear that the views expressed were my personal ones, not the view of the 550 or so members of the Ledbury and District Society Trust, of which I happen to be chairman.
May I add that my very strong feelings about this matter have arisen for various reasons. My late husband, Canon Ronald Lunt, and I in a modest way helped to achieve the triumphant purchase of 52 per cent of the shares of the Market and Fairs Co, which the developing company, Trencherwood. had acquired, thereby, preventing unwanted development on the market site in 1992.
The great number of new shareholders, many of whom bought the very expensive shares for idealistic reasons, were of the opinion that the next time round they would be able to decide what would be the best use of the site.
I am not alone among the shareholders in feeling that we were not adequately consulted about the sale of the cattle market site, and I am left with a sense of betrayal.
Veslemoy Lunt, Station House, Ledbury.
