A MALVERN pensioner has died following an accident in Harbinger Avenue.
Alfred Buckton, better known as John, was aged 82 and had lived at Viscount Cobham Court in Pickersleigh Road since 1986.
On Monday, December 11, he was involved in a collision with a Bedford panel van and on Saturday he died as a result of his injuries.
Mr Buckton's daughter, Pam Bryant, who lives in Burntwood near Lichfield, said her father loved Malvern and often spoke about his time growing up here.
"He moved up to Birmingham when he was 18 or 19 with his family and then he met my mother and we all grew up here but he wanted to move back to Malvern after my mother died," she said.
"I think it was because he loved the place so much and he loved the hills and he thought the fresh air there would be good for him," she said.
Before he retired, Mr Buckton was a painter decorator and he was a dispatch rider in the Ordnance Corp throughout the Second World War.
"He was in the forces all the way through but it wasn't something he talked about much. I think he was glad when it was all over and he could come back to my mother.
"His greatest love was ballroom dancing and he used to go to the Winter Gardens tea dances before they did all the alterations. On the Friday before the accident he had just come back from a Turkey and Tinsel trip to Weymouth so at least he enjoyed himself to the last," said Mrs Bryant.
His funeral will take place on Thursday, December 28 at 11.30am at Worcester Crematorium.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accident in Harbinger Avenue to contact them on 01905 723888.
