WEST Malvern continued their impressive away form in the Worcester League Division One on Saturday with a fine 4-2 win against Powick on a very muddy pitch with pools of standing water.

POWICK 2, WEST MALVERN 4

For the first time in recent weeks the West had a full squad to choose from and the game started brightly with both teams probing for an opening.

In the 15th minute it was the West who made the breakthrough when Lee Tracey turned well to slot past the home keeper.

Although Powick began to play some attractive football the pitch was against them and many moves broke down in the mud.

Early in the second half West Malvern increased their lead when Will Hardy broke away and chipped the ball over the keeper for Lee Tracey to hammer home at the back post.

Powick increased the tempo but found the West Malvern defence in good form with Ian Threadgold and Paul Milne again dominant.

West then went 3-0 up following a good move involving Jamie Dean, Dougie Hawes and Lee Tracey that saw Jamie Dean stroke the ball home.

Powick hit back and scored through their centre forward before West Malvern introduced their three subs with 20 minutes to go with Stuart Daley, Ken McEwan and Luke Marshall all getting involved.

It was McEwan who was then put through only to be heavily brought down but no free kick was forthcoming to the amazement of the visitors.

However McEwan would not be denied and he soon broke through again to cleverly beat the keeper from 15 yards for a 4-1 lead.

Soon after Threadgold was adjudged to have pulled back a player in the penalty box and Powick reduced the arrears from the penalty spot but the West then stood firm until the final whistle.

Both teams should be congratulated for producing an entertaining game in difficult conditions.

The West midfield were all excellent with Graham McLennon outstanding.

West Malvern, sponsored by Amey Comax, have no game now until December 30 when they are at home to Lamb and Flag.

The West would like to thank Duncan at the Nags Head for his aftermatch hospitality.
