CONTRARY to Paul Stammer's assertions in his County Commentary (Evening News, Monday, December 11) 30mph speed limits have not been "foisted" on communities.
There have been a few areas where the traffic-calming measures have not been wanted by the local community, and they have not been installed. In areas where red tarmac would have been detrimental to the village setting, it has not been used.
In my ward, which is a typical rural area, I have received many more requests for extra areas to be given speed limits than I have had objections.
There is genuine concern for the responsible use of the motor car, and the statistics are already available to prove that speed kills.
COUN MARGARET ROWLEY,
Tibberton, Droitwich.
