A POLICEMAN based at Kidderminster has been named as the top probationer in the West Mercia Constabulary area.
Paul Noke, 24, was presented with the Probationer's Cup by Chief Constable Peter Hampson.
He joined the force in May 1998, after studying English at Bristol University and originally intended to go into journalism.
"It came as quite a shock to me to find myself wanting to go into the police," he said. "The job, as a whole, attracted me."
He was described by Inspector Jane Horwood as "an excellent role model who deserves to be recognised for his contribution".
Among incidents PC Noke has faced was being confronted by a drunk and potentially violent man who had been taken into custody. He helped calm the man down, enabling fellow officers to deal with him more quickly.
On another occasion, while he was off duty, he found a man who had been reported missing.
PC Noke, who lives in Stourbridge, will begin working in Hagley next month.
