A VILLAGE church is aiming to ring out its church bells in the new year - by roping in some swinging volunteers.
The 12th century Church of St Peter and St Paul at Rock is suffering from a shortage of campanologists and tower captain Michael Fielding has to call on helpers from neighbouring parishes for special occasions.
Rev Stephen Owens, priest in charge of the benefice of Wyre Forest West, is backing the appeal.
He said: "We would welcome more bellringers because of the shortage resulting from people moving out of the area.
"It means we would be able to hear the bells ringing on Sunday as well as for weddings and other special events.
"It is a very sociable hobby."
Michael Fielding, tower captain of St Peter's and St Paul's - the largest Norman church in the diocese of Worcester - said: "At one time, four or five years ago, we had four people in training as bellringers.
"If anyone would like to turn up on a Monday evening at 7.30pm, they will be welcome. We are not there on the first Monday of the month.
"People over 18 can apply and there are about 60 steps to climb."
Anyone who is interested can contact Mr Fielding on 01299 403690 for details.
