BILL Meadows and E Bakewell have suggested that trees along the riverbank should be felled because they are blocking the view of the Cathedral and the river itself.
I am no expert on the matter, but from my geography lessons, we were taught that trees along rivers are beneficial because their roots help to consolidate the riverbank and stop it from eroding away.
The 1947 "visible" view of the Cathedral was an interesting one, from an architectural point of view, but artistically it was very hard-edged view.
