6 I MADE use of the military shuttle service along New Road during the recent floods. Getting into the back of an Army lorry is not easy and if you are not so slim or so agile as you once were, it is very difficult.
But there were courteous, cheerful young soldiers in attendance to give a helping hand, an arm or timely shove and even to physically lift to get us in to the lorry with our accompanying walking sticks, umbrellas, shopping bags and babies in prams.
All done with smooth efficiency. I was most impressed. Well done the Army!
