Journal readers are warmly invited to join the Cotswold Warden Walk on New Year's Day.
The walk is called the First New Year Footings around Broadway, taking in Broadway Tower.
It starts at 10am next Monday and will be led by Gerry Burgess and David Jelfs.
The walk starts from Broadway's Church Street Car Park behind the church and is five miles long. Stout footwear is essential.
There is a fairly steep ascent to the tower from the village and a less steep descent returning to the village, which may be re-routed if conditions deem it necessary.
The walk starts by following the High Street to where the Cotswold Way leaves the road on the right - it is signposted. It then follows the Cotswold Way to the Tower on a well-defined path.
The route enters Broadway Country Park, keeping to the footpath and passing Rookery Barn on the left.
Next it goes over a ladder stile in a fence on the right before turning left through the field towards another stile and onto a Tarmac track.
Once on the track, the route turns right and goes downhill taking a slight right hand turn where the road bends to the left.
The route then bears left at the bungalow on the right before heading diagonally across the field to a stile in the bottom left-hand corner.
Once over the stile it follows a tree-lined track which turns left (Coneygreen Lane).
From here alternative routes are possible if conditions are poor:
1 - Continue down the lane until the Broadway to Snowshill Road, turning right and going past St Eadburgha's Church. It then follows a public footpath on the right over the meadows to Broadway.
2 - In extremely wet conditions the route continues along Coneygreen Lane to a footpath, which diagonally crosses the fields back to Broadway.
There is also a walk next Wednesday at Baxterley, south west of Atherstone Park at the Rose Inn Public House. Approach via A5 and/or B4116, start 10am, leader Sheila Carter. Details: 0121 748 6695.
