A DROITWICH Spa couple with hearts of gold have been recognised for their community work.
Pensioners Tom and Margaret Cheek, of Seven Dale, devote their lives to making other people happy.
For 28 years they have run a popular children's club at Emmanuel Church, in Blake Avenue.
Margaret, aged 72, is a voluntary classroom assistant at a Birmingham school twice a week and Tom, aged 81, cycles around collecting prescriptions for housebound OAPs.
The pair, who have been married for 52 years, also help out at the Droitwich Arthritis Care Club and used to run a swimming club for the disabled.
Each year Tom dresses up as Santa Claus and brings seasonal cheer to town schools.
An employee at Exel, which has a Berry Hill Industrial Estate depot, told bosses about the couple and the company invited Tom and Margaret to a special ceremony.
They received a crystal bowl, a bottle of whisky and a bouquet of flowers.
Exel distribution centre manager Bryan Nixon said: "We wanted to recognise their outstanding community service."
Modest Tom said: "We never expected to be rewarded - we just love brightening up the lives of others.
"Most of our work has involved children and we've had brilliant fun."
