Evesham 29, Ludlow 0
Evesham celebrated Christmas in style this year with a comprehensive victory over Ludlow in a non-league fixture at home on Saturday.
The visitors started well, but Evesham were soon in control as their forwards put together some strong driving plays. Eventually the amount of possession Evesham won led to the first try from winger Chris Oreschnick. Evesham rolled a maul into the Ludlow 22. First prop Chris Maritza drove on, then second row James Duncan, before the ball was set up for scrum half Chris Evis to feed his backs. A miss pass found Oreschnick who sprinted over the line for the score.
Phil Parsons converted.
Evesham's next try came in similar fashion shortly after, but this time Duncan's drive to the line saw him break through tacklers to touchdown himself.
Other chances came when Evis was caught short of the line, and when Oreschnick couldn't hold onto a similar pass to the one he scored from earlier.
Just before the interval, centre Rick Taylor twisted and turned his way to the line to score Evesham's third try of the half.
The second period continued in similar vein with Evesham taking every opportunity to run the ball. Ludlow's slightly negative rucking tactics stopped the flow of the game, but Evesham did manage two further tries.
Firstly replacement scrum half Fraser Colley slipped through a gap created by the driving play of his forwards in the Ludlow 22. Then Oreschnick added his second try of the game when the ball was moved wide to him 15 yards from the Ludlow line. Parsons managed to convert the final try to complete the scoring.
Noteworthy performances were given by Mark Williams, playing his first game of the season for the first team on the wing, and flanker Wayne Brotherton, with yet another impressive display.
On Saturday Evesham play their re-scheduled North Midlands Cup first round game against Bromsgrove at home with a 2.15pm kick off.
