I AM all in favour of honouring Sir Edward Elgar but can think of nothing more dull or unimaginative than simply naming places after him.
Far better to use the name of some of his works. For example the Nimrod Newroad would distinguish between the two roads, preserve the traditional name and call the composer to mind.
Dorabella Drive would evoke memories of the little girl who stuttered, while Apostles Avenue would call to mind his greater choral works.
We could then go on to Gerontius Gardens or perhaps Cockaigne Court.
