FRIENDS I made while conducting a petition opposing the plan to build a Sainsbury's on Swanpool often ask me about the current position.
As reported in the Evening News, Sainsbury's have produced an amended plan, the main difference being that all traffic using the Supermarket would use Swanpool Walk.
It does not ease the traffic congestion that a supermarket creates, or indeed the possible damage to the trade of small competitors, or the environmental damage, pollution, or parking problems in nearby streets.
It is unfortunate that these amended plans have been made public at a time of postal delays and residents' minds on happier things at this festive time, but all objections must be made by Friday, January 5.
Objectors have made it clear by letter, petition signatures, and by a huge turn out in foul weather to a meeting held by the SOS group that they totally oppose St John's centre being changed.
Your letter is important & should be addressed to the Director of Development Services, Orchard House, Farrier Street, Worcester as soon as possible.
J E WALTER,
Worcester.
