MALVERN Hills District Council is hoping to hear in the New Year whether a bid for cash to pay for more security cameras has been successful.
The Council has applied for Home Office funding to extend its network of closed-circuit TV cameras to Barnards Green and Malvern Link.
Cameras have been operating in Malvern town centre for some time and traders in the other areas have been clamouring for an extension of the network.
Chase ward councillor Alex Stewart-Cleary, a member of MHDC's Executive Board, said: "We applied for money for this purpose some time ago and we're expecting to hear back in mid-January. Any money they can spare us will be welcome."
But he said no news had been heard about an attempt to raise further cash from the EC's Objective Two funding scheme.
In 1999, Barnards Green traders handed over a 1,700-signature petition calling for CCTV and other crime control measures.
