DEAN Ball, the former Moseley, Worcester and Stourbridge hooker, will have a fitness test before Bromsgrove finalise their side for the North Midlands Cup semi-final against Old Halesonians at Wassell Grove on Sunday (3pm).

Ball, who rejoined his first club earlier this season after a decade of senior rugby, aggravated a shoulder injury in last week's league game against Sutton Coldfield and he was forced to withdraw from the North Midlands President's XV for their midweek game against Crawshay's Welsh XV at Worcester.

Bromsgrove, who won the county cup back in 1982, reached the semi-finals with a 50-7 win at Old Saltleians in the quarter-finals.

Old Halesonians, who are a division below Bromsgrove, have never won the competition but they will hoping for better luck this time in this their third semi-final.

Hereford, county cup winners in 1988 and 1990, will also play their delayed quarter-final against Droitwich at Wyeside on Sunday even though they have a Midlands One league match against Camp Hill 24 hours earlier.

The winners will travel to play Newport in the semi-finals but a date for that game has yet to be agreed because Newport's Forton Road ground is currently closed because of the foot-and-mouth outbreak.

Droitwich will be without Dan Protherough, the former Moseley and Birmingham & Solihull hooker, for the quarter-final after he broke a hand in last weekend's Midlands Four West (South) game against Southam.
