A MAJOR new work of art commissioned by Areley Kings parish church will be unveiled on Sunday.
Artist Hilary Baker and calligrapher John Burgin have joined forces to produce six panels each for the Trinity Chapel at St Bartholomew's Church. Areley Kings artist Hilary Baker with one of the diptychs she has worked on for St Bartholomew's Church. Picture - JO BLIZZARD
The diptychs have been described as similar to icons and represent the different stages of the Ascension of Christ.
Hilary, a portrait painter whose studio is in the grounds of the church, said: "They are painted in gold leaf in egg tempera with gold leaf on top. The aim is they will tour churches in the area."
Church rector, Rev Andrew Vessey, said: "Six painted panels are accompanied by six panels of calligraphy.
"Besides these paintings are the words and phrases selected by Mr Burgin, a retired art lecturer, whose creative use of mixed media allows the words to inspire prayers.
"This Stations of Resurrection represents a unique collaboration, bringing contemporary art and artists into the life of the church."
