PARISH COUNCIL: News from the meeting held on March 13:

Flood Alleviation Measures: The parish council is still concerned that the works undertaken on The Green and under Canada Road bridge by Wychavon DC in November have not solved the flooding problem in the village, as properties had been flooded again in February. There is concern with the cost to the parish of this work, the present appearance of the eastern end of The Green and the lack of any obvious progress with the second and third phases of the alleviation works. Without these the work done so far cannot be effective. The parish council hope that additional work on the brook course across The Green, which has been agreed, will be started shortly.

Improvement to Amenities: The parish council has agreed to undertake improvements in the parish. Work will soon be underway to integrate the extension into the cemetery, the land opposite the cemetery is to be cleared and tidied up and the large willow tree on The Green will soon be receiving attention.

Closure of Footpaths: Due to the foot and mouth epidemic all footpaths and bridleways are closed and parish council members were busy ensuring that the notices have been displayed in the proper places.

Social Housing: The parish council will be asking the housing enabling officer to undertake a survey to find out if there is a need for any social housing in Charlton.

Village Roads: The lack of maintenance and lack of response to problems by potholes and inadequate road drains continues to test the patience of the council. It is hoped that there will be an improvement in the next financial year.

Annual Parish Meeting: This will be held next Tuesday at 7.30pm, in the Old School Room, Charlton. Residents are invited to attend, to hear the report of the work of the parish council during the last year, to look at the accounts and to raise maters for discussion. Next parish council meeting to be held on May 8.
