PHOTOGRAPHY: Next Monday The Vale of Evesham Camera Club will welcome Denis Wilkins LRPS, to give a photographic lecture entitled 'Mostly Mono Landscapes' at the Friends Meeting House, Cowl Street, Evesham, 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start. New members always welcome.
EVESHAM twinning association: MEMBERS of the Evesham Twinning Association were welcomed by the president, Bob Turner, at the annual meeting at Evesham Workingmen's Club. Reports were received from the chairman, John Smith, and twin-town representatives on the year's activities, mainly centred around the visit in July 2000 of friends from Evesham, New Jersey, which had proved to be a huge success. A "friendship" trip to the French town of Dreux was proposed for the end of May and a proposed trip to Melsungen in Germany in May 2002 was discussed.
It is expected that a sizeable contingent of friends from Dreux will visit Evesham to celebrate the 25th anniversary of links between the two towns at which it is hoped representatives from Melsungen and Evesham, New Jersey, will also be present.
Officers elected were: chairman, John Smith; vice-chairman, David Piper; secretary, Frances Smith; treasurer, Victor Atterbury; membership secretary, David Piper; Dreux representative, Helen Piper; Melsungen representative, Janet Osborne; Evesham New Jersey representative, Margaret Wyatt; committee, Rosemary message, Cynthia Such, Ann Metzger, Daphne Cartwright, Don Lawley, F Porter, Maureen Lawley, G Billingham, Mrs E Cudd, J Payne, Mrs J Atterbury, Mrs H Porter, the Mayor of Evesham (ex officio), and two members of Evesham Town Council, currently Ron Cartwright and Ron Stow.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: Evesham Horticultural Society held their March meeting at Wallace House on March 27 at 7.30pm.
The evening began with a quiz which had been chosen by Mr H Martin. The quiz was won by Mr J Doidge who was presented with a bottle of wine. The Spring Show was also won by Mr J Doidge and he was presented with the John Byrd Challenge Cup by the chairman, Mrs S Print.
The next meeting will be at Wallace House on April 24 at 7.30pm and Mrs V Brooke will talk about 'Clematis, the Queen of Climbers'. On May 22 we visit Hurrans Garden Centre at Churchdown at 7pm followed by Gardeners Question Time led by Reg Moule, the local radio and TV Gardening personality. New members and guests are welcome at all our meetings.
