Bridgnorth IV 10,

Evesham IV 12pts

A PRIZE scalp for Evesham on Saturday as Bridgnorth head the fourth team merit table in Shropshire and had only been beaten three times in the season.

The home side, playing with the sun and a stiff wind behind them, had the early advantage going into the lead with a penalty.

Against a much heavier pack Evesham battled hard up front giving their backs good possession. Phil O'Neill and Ted Leonard made some good breaks and it was the latter's gifted pass that enabled No 8 Colin Bomford to score a try to give a half time lead.

Tom Ferguson increased the lead with a try converted by O'Neill whose two subsequent penalty kicks both hit a post.

With ten minutes to go Bridgnorth's winger raced in under the posts for a converted try shortly followed by a kickable penalty when Don Taylor infringed at the bottom of a ruck.

However, much to Evesham's delight the decision was reversed for stamping.

O'Neill's clearance kick kept Bridgnorth in their 22 for the remaining minutes.
